Gear for WoW

Updated October 4, 2026. Prices are U.S. list prices; check the official shop before you buy.

Short answer: you can play WoW with any keyboard and mouse. The one upgrade that helps most is a mouse with extra side buttons, because WoW gives you many abilities to press.

Do you need a gaming PC?

No. WoW runs on most computers made in the last 6 to 8 years, including recent Macs. Check the current system requirements on the official site before you buy anything.

Mouse: the biggest upgrade

A mouse with 2 side buttons is good. A mouse with 6 to 12 side buttons (an "MMO mouse") lets you put abilities under your thumb. That frees your left hand for moving.

Gaming brands such as Razer make MMO mice with a 12-button side grid. Look for: a comfortable size for your hand, a light weight, and buttons you can tell apart by touch.

Keyboard

Any keyboard works. A mechanical keyboard feels better over long sessions, but it does not make you play better. Skip expensive RGB lighting unless you want it for looks.

Headset

Dungeon and raid groups often talk on voice chat. A headset with a clear microphone helps a lot here. A comfortable fit matters more than sound quality, because raids can last hours.

WoW merch

Official shirts, figures and collectibles are sold by the Blizzard Gear Store.

What to skip

Gaming chairs sold as a way to "play better."
Pre-built "WoW editions" of hardware that cost more for a logo.
Any service that sells gold, levels or accounts. It breaks the game's rules and can get your account banned.
